Substance Designer study #1

I have done simple material study for realistic style. it is based on a gazebo image from pinterest.

This is tiling stone wall texture. It has 3 layers of materials, plane stone, wet plane stone and moss.

This is one of stone fence textures. I used same Substance node for all stones to make consistent stone details.

Dwarf Blacksmith Workshop #5 Wooden table leg

During weekend, I spent my time making a wooden table leg.
painting believable weathering texture is always trick part. I figured out that poly-painting in Zbrush could be great color mask in Substance Designer.

I connected the color masking node to slope blur node with wood fiber texture.
That created excellent weathering effect. :)

The legs would be used on the forge, on a table and chairs!

Dwarf Blacksmith Workshop #4 Windblower

I made simple wind blower for the forge.
I used Substance Painter and Zbrush.

making realistic wood texture was most challenging part.
It wasn't easy because I have no idea how to make realistic weathering.

I found great photo references of used blowers in eBay. :)
Substance Painter was really useful to paint small weathering on the edge of wood material.

And this is simple Zbrush sculpt. For the bolts, I used Object Painting tool in 3D Max.

Dwarf Blacksmith Workshop #3 coal part

I'm still working on Blacksmith Workshop.

In this post, I'd like to talk about how I made the coal part

I've started with using Agisoft Photoscan.
I took 30 photos of a small peddle stone.
Agisoft Photoscan transfers from photos to 3D Modeling and textures.

I found out that MassFX Physics in 3D Max 2016 was really useful to make realistic pile of stones.
Object painting feature was extremely helpful to create variations of the stones.

After making a pile, I baked the high polygon information to Substance Designer.
And I added tiny coals on the side.

Since the plane didn't make interesting silhouette, I added 10 of stone low polys.

with scrolling texture and little particles, it became more dynamic!
